Embroidery has been a part of history for thousands of years. The Bayeux Tapestry, a record of the Norman Conquest of 1066 a.d is one piece of embroidery most people might know of. Egyptian Pharaoh's robes had embroidery on it also. Embroidery is a variety of decorative needlework in which designs and pictures are created by stitching strangs of material on to a layer of another material. Embroidery uses thread or wool stitched onto a variety of woven and non-woven materials including cotton, felt, cardstock, canvas, and leather. Embroidery has even come so far as to embroider on wood! Embroidery has come a long way and I can't imagine what we will be able to embroider on next!

I've always believed that everyone should help another whenever they can, and I try to volunteer or do something nice for someone as often as possible. Whether it be opening a door for someone, or volunteering my time to a friend or community event, I think it is important that everyone do this. We should focus on someone else, whether it's looking a maintenance person in the eye or from refraining from yelling at someone who is driving crazy. Do not reserve your generosity for people you know, do something nice for someone you don't know or will never meet. And be consistent. Volunteer for a cause you really believe in, or help a person you truly care about. Either way it is done, an act of kindness will make you feel good, and help others feel good too!
